A Study on Contraception of Reproductive Women in Rural Korea

Abstract
A study on contraception was conducted to 568 reproductive women in NamMyon, Hwasoon-Gun, during a month period from September to October, 1973.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. The number of women who practiced contraception were 160 out 568, the rate being 28.2%. Age of the highest contraceptive-practicing group was 35-39 years (40.6%) and that of the lowest was 20-24 (13.0%).
2. Average number of present children for the total 568 women was 4.0; 4. 4 for contraceptive-practicing women, and 3.9 for 408 non-practicing ones. As to the contraceptive-practicing rate by number of present children, 4 children was the highest (37. 1%) and 1 was the lowest (10.3%).
3. When the practice of contraception was observed from the husband¢¥s educational background, the higher educated the more practicing, and when observed from the occupation background, independent private job was the highest (37.8% ).
4. As for the reasons of practicing contraception, "too many children" was the highest (45.0%), and "not necessary" was the top (41.2%) for the reasons not practicing contraception.
5. Women who have more educated husband adopted mainly oral pills as a measure of contraception while those having less educated one adopted mainly Intra Uterine Device.
